MOLL 13: JA KÖNIG JA: JA KÖNIG JA

Debut record by this duo from Hamburg with the girl playing cello and piano and the guy on various guitars. Completed with only a few percussion parts and their gentle voices they present a very melodic and charming sort of chamber-pop music.

MOLL 14: THE COCTAILS: PEEL

Fourth release by the multi-instrumentalists from Chicago. Following up an all-instrumental-jazz album, »Peel« presents a melancholic mixture of low-fi guitar pop and slightly swinging lounge elements. Produced by Stuart Moxham (Young Marble Giants and others) and Bob Weston from Shellac/Volcano Suns. Band member Archer Prewitt is also in the The Sea And Cake.

MOLL 15: THE SEA AND CAKE: THE BIZ

Their second release in 1995 established them as one of the most popular and critically acclaimed independent bands. Due to the release dates, »The Biz« brings up the seriousness and darker moods of fall whereas »Nassau« is more summer-like and Caribbean-flavoured. Sophisticated avant-pop with touches of easy-listening and even stronger grooves. Voted »best band 1995« in the »Spex« readers-poll.

MOLL 16: MICHAEL HALL: Day

Fourth solo album by the Ex-Wild Seeds/Setters member. With its great depth and essential production »Day« stands way above the usual singer/songwriter releases. Electrifying guitar songs followed up by elegiac pieces without drums, spartanly performed with a stand-up bass and a moody piano, a lonely trumpet or a mournful accordion or violin. This is what music sounds like when the artist moves from Austin to Chicago. Featuring members of The Mekons and Poi Dog Pondering.

MOLL 17: FLOWERPORNOES: ICH & ICH

The new highlight by the enigmatic Tom Liwa and his crew. Nine great songs (including an acoustic version of Van Morrison's »Sweet Thing«), hardly any one of them under five minutes. More electrified than »Red Nicht Von Straßen.....« and with fantastic horns on half of the songs. Featuring Chris Cacavas amongst other guests. Liwa Homepage

MOLL 18: THE COCTAILS: THE COCTAILS

Comparable to »Peel« as the grapefruit on that cover is to the blood orange on the cover of the new release: Darker, catchier and even fewer connections to the band's name. Floating guitar music at its best with just a few cautious tones of vibraphone, violin and flugelhorn. The right album for moody late night hours. Also produced by Stuart Moxham and Bob Weston.(Release in March 1996)
